The Mercy Seat
PUNK VESPERS: Alternative Lenten Worship (Spring 2007) PDF Print E-mail

Featuring local punk band DBK plus Wes Kuhnley formerly of Private First Class

Lent is the darkest season of Church calendar – it is a season of contemplation, reflection and preparation for the Light, which is sure to follow the Darkness.

During the season of Lent, Mercy Seat Lutheran Church will host a punk vespers (evening prayer) service every Wednesday night @ 9pm, debuting on Ash Wednesday, 21 February 2007. This worship experience will feature an original liturgy created by local punk musicians Travis Gerjets and Zak Wilske of DBK. The liturgy mixes authentic local punk music with ancient worship components such as silent meditation and prayer to create a deep, dark and rich Lenten service. All are welcome. Bring ear-plugs – this will be LOUD.

Mercy Seat is a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Part of Mercy Seat’s mission is to be an incubator for the arts in our community, which includes the creation of new and organic worship experiences.
